Chapter 7

The war is over and Antonio eagerly awaits the return of his three brothers, Andrew, Len and Eugene. It is an exciting reunion, and Antonio's father revives his dream of moving to California in a few months' time. It is clear, however, that his sons do not share his enthusiasm. Antonio's mother is thrilled at being able to look after her sons again.

An alysis

There is not much to disturb the happiness of this family reunion, but the hint that the brothers do not share their father's wish that they move with him to California suggests the theme of generational conflict that will emerge in the following chapter.
