Throughout the long, hot summer the animals work very hard and their harvest
is extraordinarily abundant. As time goes on, it becomes apparent that the
food is not being distributed fairly and that the pigs are receiving a larger
amount of milk and apples. Squealor is given the job of explaining this and
he indicates that since the pigs are the "brains" of the organization,
they need to be properly fed. The other animals are reassured and they decide
to give up their portions for the good of the whole community.
By the fall, the occurrence at Mr. Jones' farm has spread across the county
and even though it instills a certain amount of fear among the farmers, they
cannot form an alliance to take measures against what has happened and assist
Mr. Jones. Instead, they spread false information and hope that this will
squelch any uprisings anywhere else.
When Mr. Jones tries to regain control, he is not strong enough as he only
has a handful of men who are willing to help him. Napoleon achieves a decisive
victory.
Review:
The post revolution period has set in and some of the animals are beginning
to show unrest. Some are beginning to question as to how they lives have changed.
During the battle with the men it is interesting to note that Napoleon is
not present and it is Boxer and Snowball that exhibit a great amount of bravery.
There is also a foreshadowing of the clash that is beginning to develop between
Snowball and Napoleon.
