20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Grade 6 Review

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is one of the great classics I have read. It was about a man named Captain Nemo who lived in the 1800's. He invented the first submarine in the world. Since now one had ever heard of a submarine people thought it was a sea monster. They also thought that because Captain Nemo wanted piece. So the people that thought that it was a sea monster tried to kill it, but since it was really a submarine it could plow right through the war ships, and they sunk. Then three men one a professor were on one of the ships that sunk, but they escaped on a life boat and that is when they got on the submarine.

The three men came on the submarine when Captain Nemo and the rest of the crew were outside on the ocean floor looking for supplies. The three men split up looking at the submarine not nowing that people including Captain Nemo were going to be on board soon and catch them. The professor got to the main salon, and there was a big window looking out to the clear ocean floor. The Professor walked up to the window and looked out. Then he saw men on the bottom of the ocean in weird looking suits walking back to the submarine. Then the men saw the Professor looking out the window. The men rushed back to the submarine going to try to catch the three men on Captain Nemo's submarine. Captain Nemo caught them and sentenced them to a lifetime on board the submarine, and they had some adventure!

It is a great book full of adventures and journeys that take you places that you would never dream of. For people that love adventure and exciting books than 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is for you!

Grade 7 Review

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is a very interesting and challenging book to read. It is also a very well written book by Jules Verne. The book is for a good reader since it is so challenging.

The book starts off with Mr. Aronnax who narrates the story. The time period is 1800's. Mr. Aronnax receives a letter that invites him to go on the Abraham Lincoln , which is a ship. Their quest to find what most people call a shifting reef. The reef turns out to be the Nautilus. After days and days of searching the Abraham Lincoln is thinking about turning back. When they start to turn back, Ned Land spots a fish like creature surfacing to get air. Ned is a very skilled harpooner and fires his harpoon. Ned missed and the fish like creature rammed the side of the Abraham Lincoln Ned Land, Mr. Aronnax, and one of the ships slaves fall off the side of the boat. A few hours later the ship was out of sight and Mr. Aronnax, the slave, and Ned Land were out to sea. Towards night fall the stranded men were taken aboard the Nautilus. Mr. Aronnax made friends with the Captain. Captain Nemo quickly filled the men in about important information about the Nautilus. The men were each assigned a cabin to stay in. The first important thing that happened on the Nautilus was when Mr. Aronnax, Ned Land and the slave were all invited to go fishing with the Nautilus' crew. Ned Land walked around on the floor of the sea amazed at the different kinds off fish. The fisherman were only to fire when the Captain told them to. Ned Land fired his gun at a shark. Ned missed and killed a crew member. They finished their hunting and went back to the ship. Ned was yelled at and and he was not issued a punishment. The next important event was the sea of milk. The sea of milk is a very interesting part of the book. The Nautilus was in the middle of the ocean. When they came up to surface Mr. Aronnax notice that the ocean turned to a sea of milk. This part of the book was very interesting to read since it was written very well.

A part of the book that I didn't like was when Mr. Aronnax was put in confinement for going into Captains Nemo's cabin and looking through his personal and sendemental values. The reason I did not like this part of the book was because Mr. Aronnax only went through the Captains belongings. Ned Land killed a crew member and was not punished for it. My two favorite parts of the book were when the Nautilus was attacked by a giant squid. The squid part was interesting because after this indicated that the ship would go down hill from then on. The squid attacked the ship unexpectedly when the crew was on top of the ship when it happened. The squid grabbed Ned first and Mr. Aronnax swung at the squid with an ax. The struggle took place for about six minutes. This part of the book was well written.

I really enjoyed this book since it was very well written and kept my attention through the hole time I was reading it. I hope you will enjoy this book too.

Grade 6 Review

20,000 Leagues Under the sea is a great classic. It is written by Jules Verne one of my favorite authors. This story takes place in 1866. This book is full of adventures. The story is about a so called sea monster that has been destroying ships. The main characters are Professor Pierre Aronnax is a professor in the museum in Paris of Natural History. Ned land is a Canadian harpooner Conseil is Professor Pierre Aronnax's servant.

The book starts looking for a monster thy call a narwhal or unicorn of the sea which had damaged and sunk many great ships. The main characters set sail on the Abraham Lincoln commanded by commander Farkragut to track down the creature. They encountered the narwhal and fired on it but nothing happened. Cannon balls and harpoons had no effect. In the course of the encounter the Professor was thrown overboard with his servant Conseil and the Canadian harpooner Ned Land. They were picked up by the creature that turned out to be a submarine commanded by Caption Nemo. The Nautilus gets it's electricity from sea water that is transformed into fuel. Captain Nemo was very rich. He designed the Nautilus and had the parts of it built in various parts of the world. He did this so nobody would get suspicious that he was building a big ship. He then put it together on an island and destroyed the construction place afterwards. He furnished it comfortably and had many works of art. The book is full of adventures. For instance, they were invited by Caption Nemo to go hunting in the forests of the island of Crespo. However, it turned out that this was an underwater forest! They put on heavy diving suits and went out on the ocean floor. They saw all sorts of creatures, including non-eating sharks. The author describes this all in great detail. This was all new to the new passengers that have recently come on board the Nautilus and could never believe that this submarine has been unnoticed for so long. This is a great book to read. It is filled with adventures and suspense. I recommend this book 100%.

Grade 7 Review

A classic novel that I read this year was 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne. This was a very exciting novel of a journey under the ocean in a giant submarine vessel the Nautilis. Captain Nemo is a very determined man and the one in charge on the ship. He captures three prisoners who were in chase of the vessel. The adventures that they have on their 20,000 league voyage are what make this one of the greatest science fiction stories ever. Verne wrote a master piece of a story. Written in the 1800's Verne was able to predict the future of underwater vessels that could travel at high speeds over great distances. I would highly recommend reading this great novel that's filled with action and suspense.

Grade 7 Review

This was a great classic it wasn't my favorite classic because there was to much detail. It was a great journey under the sea. The NAUTILIS was a very amazing submarine. Captin Nemo was a very weird character.I was amazed that all the food, power, and energy came from the ocean. There was a lot of suspense when they were stuck under the ice in the south pole. I thought that they were going to get killed under the ice. The best part of the book was when they were in the whirl pool and they thought they were going to die.

Grade 6 Review

A classic I would recommend is Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea . I would highly recommend this book because it is action and adventure packed. The book is about a doctor who is trying to find what a so called "sea monster" is, that has sunk many ships, but it is not an animal. It is really a submarine commanded by Captain Nemo. The book moves along smoothly and in some parts it is fasted paced and in others slow paced. If you like books with action and adventure in it you would absolutely love this book. That is why I really recommend Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea.

Grade 6 Review

I have read a lot of different books this year. I have read classics to but 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea is on of the best I have read. It begins when a ship out in search of a leagued dairy animal called the narwhale but the fish actually turns out to be a submarine built in the shape of a fish. Only three men find this out. They are Professor Aronnax, Ned Land, and the professors servant, Conseil. The men are then taken prisoner by the brilliant, warped Captain Nemo. Then begins the best sea exploration known to man. The Nautilus, which is the submarine, begins its first mission which is to travel around the world. The Captain intends this to be the first of many missions his submarine will take.

You might be thinking to yourself that this is boring but you are in for one heck of a surprise. The main plot of this story is the Nautilus and its journey around the world and with it is lots of adventure and exploration.

From going hunting on the ocean floor to standing on the ruins of the city of Atlantis 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea is recommend to anyone who likes adventure, sea exploration, and a lot of action. If you like these then this book is the right book for you.
