Our Proprietor
Jimmy Murphy
A native Irishman and noted restaurateur, Jimmy Murphy has combined his
love of food and people in Jimmy's Restaurant a popular dining spot for celebrities and
locals alike, where all guests are welcomed by Murphy's memorable Irish warmth and charm.
After leaving the farms of Kilkenn, Ireland at age 16, Murphy traveled to London to begin
his culinary career at the Savoy. Following his sweetheart, now wife, Anne to California,
Murphy worked at the Bella Fontana at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel and served at maitre d'
at the Bistro in Beverly Hills for 14 years.
On January 15, 1978, Jimmy's Restaurant opened its doors at the border of Beverly Hills
and Century City. The restaurant's premiere location, combined with fine cuisine,
legendary service and the popularity of its proprietor have established and maintained
Jimmy's as one of the most successful and perennially well-regarded restaurants in
Southern California.
In 1983, Murphy was presented with the prestigious Good Scout of the
Year in recognition of his years of outstanding leadership in the hospitality industry
along with his community involvement and philanthropic activities on behalf of Ireland.
Like all good Irishmen, Murphy gives thanks for his good fortune every St. Patrick's Day
with an annual party attended by Irish friends from around the world and his Irish and
"Irish for a Day" local clientele. During the festivities a few years ago, an
actual piece of the Blarney Stone was installed in front of Jimmy's as a gift from he
people of Country Cork. |
