Galileo's Wine Cellar

Here's Our Story....
In 1984, Roberto Donna opened Galileo in Washington D.C., much to the delight of Washingtonians. Today, patrons of Galileo come from around the world to savor Roberto's authentic Italian cuisine, emphasizing the flavors of Northern Italy and the Piedmont region. Using the freshest and finest ingredients, contributes to the fine reputation of this classic Italian restaurant.

Galileo, open for lunch and dinner, offers a wide range of appetizers, salads and entrees. Offerings in the antipasti arena include a Grilled Fennel Salad with Mint and Lemon. Asparagus with a Black Truffle Sauce or a Smoked Trout with Arugula. Settling on a pasta dish tends to be the most difficult task of the evening, the selections are abundant and tempting. Pasta filled with Zucchini served in a Pepper Sauce or Saffron and Black Squid Farfalle served with Sweet Water Prawns and Eggplant in Tomato Sauce are just a few choices. The entrees are just as enticing, Roast Guinea Hen with Truffle and Grappa Sauce, or Grilled Rack of Venison with a Wild Berry Sauce, whatever one's choice, the meal is a memorable one.

A classic and comfortable setting, Galileo's main dining room, with its soft white walls and colorful prints and artifacts, is warm and inviting. This is Roberto's signature restaurant as he expresses " Galileo will always be my showcase, offering the best of Piedmontese cuisine. It is very close to my heart." The two private wine cellars, off the main dining area, are a perfect solution for small, private gatherings. And undoubtedly, the most interesting table at Galileo is the chef's table in the kitchen. This table, which seats up to eight people, is nestled in the corner, where one enjoys the meal while viewing the hustle and bustle of the kitchen.
The extensive wine list offered at Galileo features over 900 vintages of fine Italian wines hand-picked by Roberto Donna, himself. He is quite proud of the Piedmontese wine selection at Galileo which makes up 40% of the wine list. The selections of Barolo, Barbaresco, Dolcetto, Nebbiolla and Gavi are award winning.
