Here's Our Story....
ALVA restaurant is a bit of utilitarian swank nestled in Manhattan's trendy Flatiron district. Opened in October 1994 by Fernando Saralegui and Chef Charlie Palmer, ALVA is an American Bistro serving inventive American cuisine. ALVA's chef de cuisine, Aaron Bashy, worked with Charlie Palmer at his #1 rated New York restaurant, Aureole, before taking charge of ALVA's kitchen. At ALVA, Bashy serves contemporary interpretations of classic homecooked American dishes.
Opened from Noon till Midnight, ALVA serves lunch Monday through Friday and dinner seven nights. The bar is a rendezvous for followers of fashion , (especially during the New York fashion shows at nearby Bryant Park), and Flatiron advertising executives and publishers. In its former life, ALVA was a restaurant called Chefs Cuisiners Club. CCC, as it was widely known, was a hangout for off-duty chefs and a venue where food and wine purveyors conducted afternoon tastings. In similar vein, ALVA stays open late and hosts events the second Monday of every month.
ALVA strives to be a "neighborhood" restaurant sought out for warmth, familiarity and consistently great food. On 22nd Street, ALVA's neither "up" nor "down-town". It is literally middle ground for New York's restaurant goers and ALVA attracts patrons from all parts of Manhattan. "Uptowners", comfortable in up-scale restaurants, appreciate Charlie Palmer inspired American Cuisine served in a "hip-Boite." "Downtowners" at home in more eclectic environments are at ease with ALVA's aesthetics and savor the food and wine adventures to be had.
